Alcohol, Homosexuality, and Scripture History
Good morning Dr. Bacchiocchi!
Regretably, my last two phone calls to you have caught you during periods of intense fatigue following extended travels, so I am sending you this brief email summary of the discovery I wanted to discuss. In light of your work in your book "Wine in the Bible: A Biblical Study on the Use of Alcoholic Beverages" I know it will be useful to you.
Dr. Neal Nedley in his book "Proof Positive" points out that infants exposed to alcohol while in the womb are at increased risk of developing homosexual tendencies (p. 434). Please keep this in mind while reviewing the following points.
A working knowledge of Scripture leads one to conclude that everything in it has foundation and origin somewhere in the Torah. We should know, for example, that when Solomon says "Look not upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his color in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder” (Proverbs 23:31,32)......there will be a Torah source for his statement, and the challenge is ours to discover that source! By the grace of the Almighty, I was led to discover the source of that particular statement in Deuteronomy 32:32,33, where Yahuah (through Moses) declares: "their (i.e. apostate Israel's) vine is of (or WORSE THAN - see margin) the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter: their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps".
Very significantly, the wine of apostate Israel, which (nation) is void of counsel and understanding (v. 28), is contrasted with the beverage of faithful Israel, which is described as "the pure blood of the grape"(v.14). My trip to Israel last fall + further Scripture research have provided interesting geographic confirmation for this discovery: Engedi, renowned in Scripture as the source of the finest grapes (Song of Solomon 1:14), and Hebron, the area of the Brook Eshcol where the 12 spies found that magnificent cluster of grapes (Numbers 13), are both less than 20 miles from Gomorrah!
The discovery explained above is significant for several reasons:
- it reveals that Deuteronomy 32:32,33 is in fact a categorical condemnation of alcohol from the Almighty Himself, probably the clearest in all of Scripture!
- it reveals a key contributing cause for the homosexuality which necessitated the destruction of the "cities of the plain", namely, generations of alcohol-induced moral decline and deformity. Secondary confirmation of this point is provided by noting how "experienced" the two daughters of Lot were re. the use and effects of alcohol (Genesis 19:30-38)....."experience" gained from years of living in Sodom!
- it reveals how world capitals of homosexuality such as San Francisco achieved their notoriety.....they're just downstream from rivers of alcohol flowing out of places like the Napa Valley!
- it reveals why people groups such as Jews and Catholics which regard alcohol use as normal and acceptable are plagued with homosexuality, while other people groups which condemn alcohol use, such as Muslims, have much less trouble with this perversion in their midst.
May the Heavenly Father bless you in your highly appreciated and valuable efforts to share truth on the alcohol issue.
Sincerely, Ron Buhler
